Zimbabwean non-profit organization POVOAfrika Trust launched Musicable project a programme aimed at empowering disabled artists.
The project is part of POVOAfrika Trust’s increased support to communities that are often excluded from significant opportunities across Zimbabwe.
According to the Zimbabwe independence this program facilitate access to home recording tools for artists with disabilities and through mentorship programmes with established artists, the project will also empower artists by connecting them to mainstream markets.
In an interview with Jacqueline Mpofu one of the disabled artist who is participating in this Musicable project, she told this publication that she is benefiting from the program and it has helped her to boost herself esteem and confidence.
“I’m benefiting a lot from this Musicable project , it has helped me boost my self esteem and confidence ,it has also given me purpose l was given an opportunity to work with a famous musician called Raven who was my mentor ,we recorded a song together titled Nyarara Kuchma,” said Mpofu
Mpofu further said that this project by POVOAfrika helped her by putting her on the spotlight through radio interviews, newspaper features and workshops.
The Zimbabwean independence reported that the mentorship programme will run until August, It will culminate in collaborative songs between the mentors and mentees , mentors include local artists Raven Duchess (Harare), Vuyo Brown (Bulawayo) and Pauline Gundidza (Mutare), while mentees are disabled female musicians Jacqueline Mpofu (Harare), Sithandazile Gumbo (Bulawayo) and Chipo Muchegwa (Mutare).
