Preparations are underway for the Midlands Province Presidential Star Rally which has been set for Tongogara in Shurugwi on the 19th of August 2023.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to address a record crowd of almost 300 000 ZANU PF party supporters from across his home province ahead of the much anticipated August 23 elections .

ZANU PF Midlands Provincial Chairman, and Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Larry Mavima, on Thursday (03/08/23) held a meeting with the Provincial State Functions Committee in preparation for the star rally at Tongogara.

Midlands ZANU PF Information Desk says a high-level delegation was on the ground, Thursday, getting feedback on plans made so far in preparation for the event.

During the rally, President Mnangagwa is also expected to officially commission the Tongogara Clinic, which was constructed through devolution funds.

Senator Mavima, who visited the facility to check on progress made so far, said the clinic was at an advanced stage and the Tongogara Rural District Council and the Zimbabwe Defense Forces also assisted with construction of the clinic.

“This is a clinic that was initially funded by, or through, devolution funds as well as funds the Rural District Council itself sourced and put into the project.

“However, it is important to note and mention that the final construction of this building was done by the Zimbabwe Defense Forces as part of their community service,” Senator Mavima said.

As the August 23 elections near, political parties across the country are on election mode with rallies being conducted countrywide, and this will be ZANU PF’s 9th Provincial rally since the announcement of election dates.

The Home Province Star Rally for President Mnangagwa comes after the Manicaland (Chipinge), Matabeleland South (Bulilima), Mashonaland West (Magunje), Masvingo (Zaka), Mashonaland Central (Centenary), Matabeleland North (Nkayi) and Bulawayo (Cowdry Park) and Mashona East (Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe) star rallies.
