Mbada dance group emerge provincial champions

Kwekwe-based traditional and contemporary dance group “Mbada” were crowned Midlands’s winners at the provincial Chibuku Neshamwari Dance Festival held at Mandava Bar over the weekend.


The group, which is made up of 12 members, scooped US$2 500 and a place to represent Midlands at the finals scheduled for Gweru on August 4.
Second place went to Trans Choreography from Gweru and Undi Gure from the host town, Zvishavane was crowned in third position.


For their efforts, the provincial winners walked away with US$2 500. The first runners-up received US$1 500 and the second runners-up, US$1 000.
Mbada is now set to represent the Midlands province at the national finals taking place next month.
This year’s edition of the dance festival is being run under the theme, “Bira Remadhanzi, 60 Years Sithokozisa Ngezomgido!”


Chibuku Neshamwari Dance Festival provincial winners will proceed to national dance competitions, where participants from across the 10 provinces of Zimbabwe will come through and compete.
The top three winning groups will receive US$15 000 for position winners, US$10 000 for second best group, and US$7 500 for the group that will come third position.
