Zim poet Mbizo maintains international appeal

Zimbabwe’s premier performance poet and author Mbizo Chirasha continues to gain global appeal as he continues to win international writing accolades.
The black poet as Chirasha is affectionately known recently won the latest prestigious 2023 Naji Naaman literary prize.

The title of the completed writing that won the global literary prize is Dictators Doeks.
Naji Naaman’s Literary Prizes are awarded every year to authors of the most emancipated literary works in content and style, aiming to revive and develop human values.
The top Zimbabwean poet has been recognized among the top 60 new prize winners where 2929 participants poets from around the world competed, from seventy nine countries


An acclaimed word smith, performance poet, widely published poet and writer, Chirasha has not only been instrumental to literary projects such as the Girl Child Creativity Project, the Girl Child Voices Fiesta, and the Young Writers Caravan, as well as creation of the Urban Colleges Writers Prize. He is also committed to a number of socially relevant projects in Zimbabwe.


“I am greatly humbled to be honored among the most revered creative and literary luminaries from across the globe. I look forward to continue writing and networking in order to learn more and growing artistically,” he said.
Naji is a multi-lingual literary arts competition writing in more than thirty languages and dialects.


Born and bred in Midlands Province, in 2020 Chirasha received a major boost in his artistic career after he was accepted as a new United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco)-Rila affiliate artist, joining an esteemed team of other international creatives on the programme, a development that afforded him a chance to grow, learn and engage with other creatives.
