Kwekwe residents recently shared their grievances with the Tenants and Residents association (TRA) over poor service delivery by city councils in their communities.
Residence from Redcliff town complained over shortage of water, poor road system and poor sanitation in their communities.
“we spend three or two months without water in Redcliff, for example in Torwood where I stay we survive on borehole water yet we are supposed to pay water charges every month and also it is not health to survive without water especially in a time like this where there is cholera outbreak in our country,” said a man who identifies himself as Mr. Zulu
Also a woman who identified herself as Mrs. Ziki who resides in Torwood said they are asking TRA to help them talk to their council so that they will improve road infrastructure to be safe to travel without fearing for their health as she was saying that their roads are covered with dust and this is dangerous to their health, she also said that council should collect their bins in time to avoid residents dumbing rubbish everywhere which is resulting in poor sanitation in their area .
A lady from Globe and phoenix said that in their area they receive water from Kwekwe city council but their problem lies with illegal artisanal miners who are damaging water pipes supporting their water tank which result in them facing water challenges , as they are now receiving water during the night which has put their lives in danger since they are supposed to wake up and fetch water yet their area is well known to have artisanal miner who walk around carrying machetes (vakomana veabhemba ) and she said this might subject them to rape or murder so they are asking TRA to help them in finding solutions to this problem .
A young man who identified himself as Kenny from New town kwekwe said that TRA must help them tell the council to verify their work before sending their interns to disconnect water in the residential areas because these interns are humiliating some paid customers because of council’s mistakes and he also ask for the council to attend to reported sewage in time to avoid spread of diseases like cholera.
TRA residence association representative who was at this meeting encourages kwekwe communities to create commitees where they discuss challenges they are facing in their respective communities and present them to TRA board which will then approach city councils on behalf of residence and he also encourage people to attend budget meetings .
