South Africa heading for a chilly and dark winter as energy woes deepen.

South Africa’ s energy crisis is set to get worse as winter approaches with no end in sight of the crippling power shortages.

Load shedding is expected to reach level 11 as more demand for power takes effect with winter onset.

South Africa ‘s power shortages have accelerated in the past 10 years with experts attributing this to ageing coal powered infrastructure and lack of investment.

To manage the situation Eskom has had to introduce 16 hour load shedding schedules country wide in the past 12 months.

South African leader Cyril Ramaphosa in February declared a state of disaster to try and harness resources to arrest the situation.

Analysts say the debt ridden Eskom cannot borrow money.

The IMF projects the power cuts to impact the country ‘ s GDP significantly.
