Multi-disability film-producer defies the ddds

A man with multi-disabilities in the third largest city of Zimbabwe, Gweru town has become popular for exhibiting high levels of efficiency, ingenuity and dedication to obligation following his entry into film and production industry.
Born in 1985,Kudakwashe Doba has shown rare courage to compete with able bodied people in the competitive arts and film sector, authenticating that disability is not inability.

Based in Guinea Foul, Doba is a talented writer, producer, director and editor who produced quite a number of films beamed on National television, these include Small House Saga where he rose to become the head script writer in the 2000s and Komboni Secrets which is currently shown on ZTV every Wednesday. Guinea Fowl is located in the East of the region Gweru, along Shurugwi road.

Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth, he has refused to let his condition hold him back.
Unlike most artists, Doba has adapted to a unique way of plying his trade.

With a limited range of movement due to multiple disability, Kuda amazingly uses his head in his exhilarating computer script writing, in a way that would leave seasoned authors drooling with envy.

The artist was on 21 February awarded the best producer, in the film sector by President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the National Youth day 2023.He pocked $1000 and a certificate.

As if that is enough, he has difficulties with her speech and still finds strength to pursue her passion of becoming a film and music video producer.

Throughout teen years, while at school, Doba used computers leading to a passion for film editing.
Today Kuda is one of the most influential film producer the Zimbabwe

In an exclusive interview, Doc, as Kuda is affectionately known says there is nothing peculiar for people with disabilities to wake up in the morning, go to work, and raise families, adding he is proud of his job.

He says whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly and whoever sows bountifully will in turn reap bountifully and for that reason he appeals for capital support to grow his business.
“I ventured into this arts sector years back as I believe in working for oneself despite a number of physical limitations. I also use my wheel-chair as my desk where I work on, using my computer, I do my work on it but unfortunately it has broken down and now cause some complications on my back.
“With the harsh economic environment I appeal for assistance in acquiring a new wheel chair and funding to improve my business operations which was affected by COVID-19 and inflation,” said Doba.
The passionate film producer said from the award he received from the highest office in the land, he managed to buy some film equipment and these were not enough.

Doba thanked his mother for supporting him in every aspect of his life. The mother who is an Agriculture Extension Officer is Doba’s aid and interpreter.
Speaking to Kwedu News, Kuda’s mother, Martha Ndhlovu said although “Zimbabwe’s film sector and arts business transactions have remained subdued for a while but that has not deterred Kuda and his cast and crew from creating”.
She added that Kuda has resorted to using what he can though at times inhibiting the ability to make his ideas come through.
