“Regae the voice of African Consciousness”

Reggae a voice of African consciousness
By Memory Mudzani
Reggae has grown to be the voice of African consciousness, the wailing of Africans, it is the voice for the downtrodden and a way to express African culture.
In an interview with Kwedu News Tavona Padoro aka Ganjahtrix who won a prize
last year as the best reggae artist, he told this publication that reggae music has evolved to be the voice of African consciousness, the wailing of African thus why Bob Marley and Peter Tosh call themselves the wailers .
He further said that reggae music is a platform where African people can express their own truths, it gives people the voice to speak against injustices from 60s up to now.
Padoro said reggae music evolve with the African roots and it is perfected and commercialized by the Jamaicans ,its now like Jamaica is the home of reggae but its root is Africa because from the 60s African used reggae music to express themselves.
” what is special about reggae is that it has a special significance ,if we go to the bible in psalms 87 it mentions something about Ethiopia that this man was born there ,with refrence to that it’s Rastafarian way of life it’s a prophecy about Rastafarian who is also a root of David thus another issue but it goes on to say player of instrument and singers shall be there ,so there is this thing about reggae as a divine music, music which was prophesied and music which is there to proclaim the true message of the most high’s righteousness thus what reggae is all about ,”said Padoro
He said Reggae also became popular in the ghettos with downtrodden people in Africa and all over the world identifying the music because of the message.

Padoro said in Zimbabwe we have Zimdance hall music which is another form of reggae as it evolves from reggae music and it’s like another fast way of reggae .

He further said Reggae music is revolutionary Rastafarian music , spiritual divine music and also deep social commentary music , it remains the roots and the platform for the consciousness, also reggae is classic produced and it is timeless music.
