A 19 year old woman was caught by the public after she kidnapped a three months old baby at Pamumvuri bus terminus in Shurugwi on 22 January 2024 at around 1515 hours.
It is the state’s case that on 22 January 2024 Charity Machau aged 31 years of Gutsaruzhinji co-operative in Shurugwi was selling green mealies at Pamumvuri bus terminus, she laid her three months old baby girl on the table whilst doing her business and it is alleged that she was approached by the now Rudo Jakarasi (19) of Mbizo in Kwekwe who appeared to be in trouble and asked to use her cell phone saying, she lost hers in a bus.
It is reported that Machau handed her the cell phone and continued with her work and after a while she discovered that Jakarasi was nowhere, she checked for her baby and found that the baby was also missing.
Midlands police spokesperson inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said that it was reported that Machau started running around looking for the baby and she alerted other vendors who also joined her searching for Jakarasi and they caught her along Gweru-Zvishavane road, the baby was recovered in a stable condition and Jakarasi was handed over to the Police.
